Ian has been a partner in DWF since 2000 and leads the Occupational Health team based in the Manchester office. He is a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers and is a regular speaker and writer on employers' liability and disease litigation issues.
Ian successfully advised the defendant in Birmingham University vs Williams (2011), the most recent authority on the standard of proof required to establish breach in mesothelioma claims.
He is involved in managing liability claims in many sectors. He favours a holistic approach to claims working with data and MI as well as brokers, HR professionals and health and safety advisers and risk managers to provide focussed solutions to claims.
Ian has developed a variety of toolkits to assist those handling bulk claims. These include a deafness tool and an MI suite to identify and manage claims "hotspots" and an iPhone app.
He pioneered dwf evaluate an online tool for assessing the relative value and cost of claims settling within and outside the claims portal, an essential part of DWF's service to its clients in making timely and commercial decisions on claims.
Ian has over 25 years' experience in asbestos litigation, WRULDs, stress and contribution issues as well as casualty claims and disease generally.
Ian's life outside of work includes walking, especially with his dog, visiting the beaches and open spaces of rural Northumberland.
