            DWF Marie Curie initiative

The Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle has been supporting local people with terminal illnesses for more than 20 years, caring for around 1000 local people and their families every year. DWF’s ‘Pay for a Day’ on the 21st November was in memory of Dave Hudson, the husband of a DWF colleague, Lorraine, who sadly lost his battle with cancer on 21st November 2014.  A number of DWF’s people visited the hospice on the day to show their support and witness the care and compassion that staff members at the hospice provide to each patient.

Lisa Wilson, Fundraising Manager, comments: “We are all very grateful to receive such generous support from DWF, the donation of £6584 will fund the hospice for 24 hours, enabling our specialist teams to provide expert care and support to patients and families from across the region. I know the date had significant meaning for DWF marking the 21st November as a way to remember Dave Hudson. On behalf of our patients and families thank you for this wonderful contribution to our work. We’d love to hear from more companies like DWF who could help support our local fundraising appeal in also Pay for a Day at our Newcastle Hospice."

Adam Heather, Executive Partner at DWF’s Newcastle office, comments: “It was very humbling to support the hospice, recognising the outstanding levels of kindness and care that the staff at Marie Curie offer to the terminally ill and their families at what must be incredibly difficult times. In the Newcastle office and in DWF as a firm we take great pride in our CSR programme, which is assisted greatly by the work of the DWF Foundation which with various fundraising activities helps to raise funds for distribution to local charities.”

As a registered charity, the DWF Foundation has the sole aim of providing funds, resources and support to help local communities achieve their full potential, and focuses on education, employability, health & wellbeing and homelessness. The DWF Foundation will support charities and projects that tackle specific community issues; help voluntary and community groups to become more effective and efficient; encourage involvement of those too often excluded; and enable young people to develop skills for the benefit of the community.
