As I did not have previous experience in corporate work I had no idea what to expect. After two days of training I immediately started assisting the team with their preparations for the completion of a multi-million pound deal. The team were instructed by a private equity firm to assist with their purchase of two online price comparison sites. The pair were merged to create the UK’s first super-comparison site across the full homes services market, covering energy, broadband, TV and mobile providers.
My first few days were spent in the Liverpool office helping a solicitor in the team ensure 320 documents were in order and correctly presented. On the Monday morning we got the train to London and went straight to the impressive DWF office in the iconic 'Walkie Talkie' building.
I prepared the room for the completion meeting which was taking place the following day. This involved laying out all of the documents in numerical order and making sure they were correct. I immediately felt part of the team and benefitted from the guidance of two very approachable partners.
When the completion day arrived we headed back to the London office for 7.30am and got to work. The team allowed me to get fully involved and make a contribution which was amazing in the context of such a high profile deal. The day was fast paced and my role was amending documents as decisions were made and witnessing signatures. I was in contact with our clients throughout and also had the opportunity to meet lots of interesting people from the other businesses involved. The DWF team's efficiency when dealing with the completion process on such a large scale was really impressive, and it did not go unnoticed by the thirty people who attended.
The day finished with champagne celebrations in the Sky Garden. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed my glamorous first week in the corporate team and am looking forward to the next six months.
On the first morning I was terrified. Which suit should I wear? Will I miss my train? How many jokes should I make on the first day?! For the last week and a half I’ve been part of the DWF Manchester vacation scheme, and looking back now I can’t understand why I was so nervous!
