          Diversity & Inclusion

At DWF we aim to ensure that everyone can give their best, develop their talents and play their part in making this a truly world class business.

Our Diversity Steering Group and network of Diversity Champions provides strong and visible leadership to support the implementation of our strategic diversity objectives and in doing so, embeds diversity into the way we do business.

          Diversity and inclusion

Inclusion is integral to our values and culture. We partner ambition, innovation and passion with dignity, respect and fairness. Hard work and personal responsibility apply across every aspect of this. We want everyone to reach their full potential and we think you should be able to do that free from discrimination or harassment of any kind.

We recognise the benefits diversity brings and focus our efforts in a way that is responsive to the needs of our people, our clients and our communities. Our approach is evidenced in the way we think and behave every day, so ourt people experience an inclusive culture where individuals of all backgrounds feel confident in bringing their whole selves to work.

What inclusion means for our people

          • Being treated fairly and with respect.
          • Valued and appreciated for who they are and the work they do.
          • Confident they are working in a safe and secure environment.
          • Helped to improve your skills and abilities to fulfil their potential and enjoy a rewarding and fulfilling career.
          • Encouraged to take action to make others feel included but challenged if their behaviour fails to live up to our shared values.
          • Listened to and engaged with honesty at all times.
          • Encouraged to achieve a decent balance between work and personal commitments.
          • Empowered to raise concerns about issues they feel are important and confident that they will be properly addressed.
          • Being part of a business that is passionate, authentic and collaborative.

          Our Inclusion Partners

We are recognised by Stonewall as a top performing business on LGBT inclusion and in 2017 ranked 36th in ther Top 100 employers list. In 2018, we are delighted to have been chosen to be a Mentor in an innovative pilot that has been launched by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Stonewall, to develop LGBT inclusivity in small and medium-sized law firms.

We were the first legal business to achieve 'ClearAssured' status, establishing us as an inclusive recruiter for disabled talent. Developed by The Clear Company, the UKs leading auditors of inclusive recruitment practice, this benchmark has helped us to identify and remove barriers which have the potential to exclude disabled people. As an inclusive employer, we will make every appropriate effort to welcome any suitably qualified candidate into our business.

Disability Confident is a Government scheme that is designed to help recruit and retain disabled people. We were the first legal business to be recognised as a Disability Confident Leader in 2017.

Working Families is the UK’s leading work-life balance organisation. Each year we validate all aspects of our flexible, agile and work life policies and practice, and how we are integrating them into our values and culture.

          Working Families

The Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (ENEI) is the leading employer network covering all aspects of equality and inclusion in the workplace. In 2017, we achieved Gold Standard in their diversity benchmarking and were recognised as winners in the Equality & Inclusion Senior Champion and Advancing Social Mobility in the Workplace categories at the ENEI Awards.

As a signatory to the charter, we have worked hard to bring the charter commitments to life as part of the way we do business, recognising that a diverse workforce better meets the needs of our clients. We participate and sponsor the charter's bi annual report to improve the diversity of talent and to promote inclusion of all diversity strands. We are currently Gold Standard.

At DWF, we already have a richness of diversity in terms of thought, backgrounds, education, cultures and religious belief. Demographics and societal changes will increase and enrich that diversity. Our approach to diversity is to ensure it is not only present in terms of our policies but visible in practice throughout the firm and something I view as critical to our plans for future growth.
